Neptune Gardens

During the massive storm that hit New Jersey yesterday, many were left without power including us at Neptune Gardens but we still got through it. Neptune Gardens opened its doors today to welcome anyone that wanted a nice hot cup of coffee and some doughnuts, or just some AC thanks to our generator!!!

Michael is a 56 year old male. He was admitted to Neptune Gardens after a brief hospitalization due to a fall that he suffered and worsening pain and paralysis in his elbow with pain levels at 10/10.
Michael was referred to Physical Therapy secondary to worsening balance deficits. Michael has a past medical history of the following: ETOH, mononeuropathy/radiculopathy, HTN, pancytopenia secondary to alcoholism, Right brachial DVT with decreased motor control of his right wrist, seizures and cannabis use. Skilled Physical Therapy services were warranted to increase independence with gait, increase functional activity tolerance and improve dynamic balance in order to enhance patient's quality of life by improving ability to safely return to community. Skilled Occupational Therapy services were warranted to maximize independence with ADLs and improve motor control/tone in upper extremity.
Upon admission to Neptune Gardens, Michael had difficulty with dresssing, self-feeding and all uses of his right upper extremity during ADL’s, which was his dominant hand. Michael benefitted from a wrist cock-up splint. In addition, the physical and occupational therapists were able to work closely with AllCare Orthotics and Prosthetics in order to fit Michael for an appropriate elbow orthotic. Upon discharge, Michael was independent in all ADL’s and was able to walk unassisted.
Michael was able to discharge back to the community after participating in skilled physical and occupational therapy.
